Calypso has three vessels that have been designed exclusively for snorkelling and scuba diving on the Great Barrier Reef.

There are two options for snorkelling with Calypso:

A dedicated snorkelling experience to Opal and Tongue Reef or Snorkel on the Snorkel & Dive experience to Agincourt Reef and Opal Reef, perfect when travelling with divers.

Calypso offers introductory and certified dives.  Introductory dives are perfect for first time divers or those with limited experience.  No diving experience is necessary as divers are given a thorough lesson on board as the boat heads out to its first site. Introductory divers are teamed up with one dive master to a maximum of 4 divers for safety.

With much of the reef’s colour and marine life visible within the first few metres below the water’s surface, snorkelling allows even the most apprehensive swimmer to view the reef, with minimal effort or skills required. With shallow conditions, Opal Reef is ideal for snorkelling. Float effortlessly over coral gardens in search for weird and wonderful marine creatures that will keep you busy for hours including the world famous ‘Fish Bowl’, which is home to giant clams, clown fish, anemones and many more. Enjoy easy access into the water with a swim up platform.

With sheltered, calm conditions, snorkelling Agincourt Reef is not only one of the most unforgettable experiences, it is also one of the most relaxing even for the most inexperienced swimmer. Take your time as you explore these shallow reefs, teeming with marine life from turtles and clown fish to some of the bigger species such as sharks, Maori wrasse, dolphins and Dwarf Minke Whales (May to September)

Now with 2 boats – one for Wavelength III carrying 30 passengers and the other Wavelength IV carrying 46 passengers.

Wavelength is family owned and operated company which has been in operation for 30 years.  They cater exclusively to snorkelers and as such choose sites best suited for snorkelling rather than diving.  Seawater absorbs red light first so the brightest colours are closest to the surface.  Coral needs sunlight to grow so 90% of all living matter on the reef is in the top 10 meters.

Wavelength is one of the original pioneers of ecotourism and co-founders of “Eye on the Reef” program, one of the largest community based coral reef health monitoring systems in the world today.

Each day the skipper on Wavelength chooses three outer reef sites by assessing weather and tide conditions to ensure you have the best experience possible. Wavelength aim to vary the sites to showcase the Great Barrier Reef’s amazing diversity, they have sites on the Opal, St Crispin and Tongue Reef.
